8 Fixes When iPhone Flashlight Not Working

Posted on Posted in Fixes, Guides, Mobile, News

The iPhone flashlight is a great tool to have on hand, but sometimes it can become faulty. Whether your phone’s flashlight won’t turn on or the light coming from your screen isn’t bright enough for you to see in darker conditions, some fixes may work. Read this blog post for eight possible solutions if the iPhone flashlight isn’t working correctly!

Fix #1: Charge Your Device

If the iPhone’s flashlight is not working, the first thing you want to do is check your battery. If your iPhone’s battery life has drained completely, it won’t be able to power on the screen. So, one of the simplest ways to fix this issue is simply by charging your phone until it turns on again.

  • A dead battery might also prevent you from activating Low Power Mode, which will cause an Error message. It occurs because iOS detects rapid spikes in temperature.
  • Begin by plugging in your device and checking to see if it charges. If it does, you know that the problem lies elsewhere. If not, then proceed to step two below while charging your smartphone.

Fix #2: Close Your Camera App

Suppose your iPhone flashlight won’t turn on closed all open apps, including the Camera app (if available), by double-clicking on the Home Button until you’ve gotten to your main screen with icons for each app installed. Now slide any apps that are open up to begin jiggling and look like they will close (the arrow in the red circle).

To close an app that isn’t jiggling on its own, press and hold down on an open app until the red close button pops up and then release. Then, click on the flashlight icon again and check if it is working.

Fix #3: Check The Brightness Slider

Check if the screen brightness is too low by sliding your finger up from the bottom of the display towards the center of your iPhone to open Control Center. If the flashlight app is off, slide your finger over to the right-most slider control to turn on the feature.

Fix #4: Update iOS

Whenever you experience an issue with any iPhone feature, updating to the latest version of iOS has emerged as a go-to fix for most problems. The same can be true when the iPhone flash is not working. Try updating your device’s software by going through iPhone Settings App > General > Software Update > Download and Install.

You can also connect your phone or tablet to your computer and open iTunes if you need assistance with this process. The update will hopefully fix the iPhone flashlight. If not, proceed to the next step.

Fix #5: Use Siri To Turn On iPhone Light

If the flashlight stops working on your iPhone, Siri can sometimes be used as a fallback to turn it on. To do this:

  1. Press and hold the home button until Siri activates (make sure you speak clearly).
  2. Ask Siri “turn on flash” or “flashlight” (you don’t need to specify that you’re referring to the iPhone’s LED, Siri knows it is on your iDevice).
  3. The flashlight will turn on or remain on. Note that using Siri can drain your iPhone battery faster than usual if it is low already. So try any of the other options before falling back to this one.

Fix #6: Restart Your iPhone

Let your iPhone restart to see if the problem goes away.

Just like other devices, iPhones can get frozen and glitchy from time to time.

If you’ve tried everything mentioned here and still can’t get your flashlight to work, then turn off your phone and turn it back on again till the Apple logo appear. A basic restart will often resolve minor issues and glitches.

Fix #7: Reset iPhone Settings

You can also try resetting your iPhone to see if that resolves the problem. This will not delete any of your data or installed apps, but you might have to go through a few extra steps after the reset is done. After all, you’ve already tried about everything else on this list, right? If so, then give this a shot.

  • Your phone automatically backs up settings and essential data during each sync with iTunes or iCloud.
  • So, don’t worry about losing anything significant that way. You’ll need to set things up again once the process is finished.
  • Also, note that you’ll lose any changes to your email accounts and Wi-Fi networks after doing this, along with other preferences such as the layout of your home screen.
  • To reset your iPhone settings, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Your device will restart when the process is finished.

Fix #8: Restore Your iPhone to a Previous Backup

When trying to fix this problem when the iPhone flashlight is not working, your last resort is restoring your iPhone from a backup you made before it started acting up. This action takes your device back in time, so you can access all of your data and reconfigure apps if needed without losing any of it.

This step will be for more advanced iPhone users only, but feel free to give it a try if everything else has failed thus far. Just make sure that you’ve backed up before restoring your device in iTunes or iCloud.

How Do I Know Whether My iPhone Has A Hardware Problem Or Not?

If it happens to be broken entirely, you can take it into Apple Store for them to give you feedback and get a replacement from there if necessary. There are, however, some undeniable signs that show when smartphones have gone wrong, which include:

  • The screen remains black no matter what you try
  • You can’t turn the phone on
  • The touchscreen is not working at all.

Summing Up

If you have tried everything above and your iPhone flashlight won’t work, it’s probably a hardware issue that only Apple can fix. You can either get a new device or, if you’re under warranty, then find out how to book an appointment with Apple Support. Sometimes it’s best to get in contact with them rather than hoping the problem will go away eventually. Have any tips or tricks that we missed? Please share them with us in the comments below!
